Lessons & Class Programs

Coach Kelly and his staff will help all fencers establish their own specific learning and development programs. The following provides a general overview of the types of programs that Knight of Swords offers to develop both new and more advanced fencers.

Step 1: For First-time or Beginner Fencers

Knight of Swords offers a special introductory fencing program. This program will provide a strong, safe introduction to the sport of fencing. Whether you want to swordplay for fun, aspire to become an Olympic fencer, or simply develop a taste for the sport, we will teach you the basics of fencing.

The Introduction To Fencing presents the three swords of the sport -- foil, epee & sabre -- teaches basic positions and movements, blade work and rules while allowing students to participate in partner drills and "bouting".

  • 8 group classes or 4 individual lessons
  • All equipment provided by Knight of Swords

Step 2: Group Classes

Knight of Swords offers group classes for fencers who want to improve their fencing technique and tactics.

  • 1-2 One-hour classes per week
  • KOS instructor to teach all classes
  • Members can attend any scheduled classes each week

Decision Time Regarding Intermediate/Advanced Fencing

As fencers begin developing and improving their fencing skills in monthly lessons, they should meet with Coach Kelly to discuss which weapon they would like to pursue, what equipment they need to purchase and to review their fencing abilities and interest levels.

Step 3: Intermediate/Advanced Lessons

Coach Kelly designs a weekly intermediate/advanced skills "lesson plan" for fencers that will include as many as 1-to-5 private (one-on-one) 20 minute lessons per week.
